First opening as part of a Chicago library in 1982, the Chicago Children's Museum has had two permanent locations since then and is presently in a three-story, 57,000-square foot facility on Navy Pier off Lake Michigan with views of the Illinois shore.

Some of the permanent exhibits at the museum are entitled Play it Safe, Big Backyard, Kids Town and the popular Kovler Family Climbing Schooner which allows kids and caregivers to voyage to the bottom of the ocean and explore the tropical fish, before climbing up to the rafters and racing through the rope-like tubes at the very top (ages 5-and-older).

The Block Party special exhibit closes in the fall and will be replaced by a Curious George exhibit that will run until early 2008. The latest information on the museum is available on their official web site.
